Context
Made-to-order furniture is usually sold with a photo, a price and a vague lead time. We invented Linen & Lumber to see what a shop could look like if it showed the making as clearly as the product.
The challenge
Be honest about five to nine weeks of waiting, and turn that wait into part of what the buyer is paying for.
Approach
The home page opens on what is on the benches this week. The Tegalsari chair page is a configurator: each choice of teak, linen and finish shows its price and how many days it adds, with a note on how it ages. An example order follows two chairs for Lisbon stage by stage on a timeline, and a makers page names the three people who build each piece and sign it underneath. A phone view shows a maker posting an update from the bench and the buyer’s screen changing.
